About the Gala
The "HOMELAND LOVE, Theme for Irvine" Chinese New Year Gala in Irvine, hosted by the American Southern California Economic and cultural Association, is a major cultural and charity event held at the Barclay Theater at UC Irvine. This gala emphasizes promoting Chinese culture, uniting overseas Chinese, and enriching cultural life through original performances such as street dance, song, and drama. It features a red carpet ceremony, festive decorations, and performances by young Chinese-American talents, reflecting the cultural transmission to the new generation. The event also supports community mental health initiatives, showcasing a fusion of cultural celebration and social impact, spearheaded by prominent figures like Huang Dongping and etc.

- A well-known wind virtuoso, an instrument reformer, and a professor at Bard College US-China Music Institute, Mr. Yazhi Guo is recognized as one of the best Souna players in the world. And throughout his career, Mr. Guo has striven to integrate Chinese music with world music.
- Guo was born into a musical family and grew up playing various instruments. His mother was an opera teacher, he began learning French horn at age 9, and at 14, he entered Shanxi, Jing Zhong Art School to learn two-strand strings and Souna. Guo later graduated from the Folk Music Department of the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing in 1990 and stayed on to teach there. In 1999, Guo was appointed as the Principal Souna by the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra. In 2012, Guo furthered his musical pursuits in the United States, where he gave lectures and concerts at colleges such as Harvard University, The University of the Arts, and Berklee College of Music. In 2015, upon completing his studies from Berklee, Guo received an Artist Diploma, and led the Berklee Jazz band to China and Singapore to showcase the fusion style of Souna and jazz band performances. During Guo’s illustrious career, he has won numerous awards: in 1998, Guo was the Grand Prize winner of the New York Pro Musicis International Award; in 2013, Guo was the recipient of the Hong Kong Artist of the Year Award; and in 2020, the recipient of Boston’s Best International Musician’s Award. In April 2021, he was featured on the cover of China’s authoritative music magazine, People's Music.
- Guo has recorded dozens of solo albums, many of which were award winning: The Best Instrumental Performance Award for "Eight Thousand Miles’ Journey” chosen by the Chinese Audio Selection Committee in 2018; “The Dragon’s Chant” published by Taiwan Feng Chao Music in 2020, and nominated for the 18th American Independent Music Award’s “Best Crossover World Music Record;” and “Shuruaat” a collaboration with the Berklee Indian ensemble, which was nominated for the 2023 Grammy Award’s “Best World Music Record.”
- Guo has made remarkable achievements in the research, development, and creation of musical instruments. In 1993, he won the second prize for scientific and technological progress from the Ministry of Culture of China for inventing the "Suona Huoxin." Since then, Guo has collaborated with numerous composers to premiere modern Souna works such as "Chinese Rhapsody," "Calling the Phoenix," "Traces No. 4," "Bauhinia," "The Desert River," "Camel Travel," and "Magical Land," ushering in a new era of Souna art development.
- In recent years, Guo has invented the "Multi-tone Hulusi" and the "Guzheng Double-slot bridge Transposing," holding seven national patents for musical instrument inventions and utility models. In 2022, the Chinese National Orchestra Society honored him as one of "China's Top Ten Musical Instrument Innovators."
- Guo continues to be a passionate educator and entrepreneur. In 2021, Guo co-founded the non-profit “American Academy of World Music” and serves as its first president. He works tirelessly to cultivate outstanding talents from multiethnic and cultural backgrounds, and to work together to promote his dream of world peace through music.

- Former dance instructor at the Central University for Nationalities Dance Academy. She has won awards in numerous national and international dance competitions including the Seoul International Dance Competition, the Mongolian International Dance Competition, the Hong Kong International Dance Film Festival, the "Peach and Plum Cup" National Dance Competition, the CCTV Dance Competition, and the "Lotus Award" National Minority Dance Competition. She has played leading roles in two dance dramas and numerous productions, often representing her school in high-profile performances globally. In 2009, as a representative of Mongolian women, she danced on Tiananmen Gate Tower in celebration of the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China with Chinese leaders including Hu Jintao. She has published three dance textbooks, created nine original dances and dance films, and developed numerous dance ensembles. Involved in multiple educational research projects under China's 211 and 985 programs, she has also participated in dance seminars in China, Mongolia, and the USA. In 2023, she directed two dance films that are about to be completed and will soon compete in international dance film festivals.

- Young dancer and leading performer with China's Oriental Song and Dance Ensemble. Educated at the Beijing Dance Academy (B.A.) and the Beijing Film Academy (M.A.), she has excelled in various high-profile roles both domestically and internationally. Her accolades include a Silver Prize at the 9th National Dance Competition for her performance in "Highland Rain" and third place in the 2024 "California Chinese Mothers Pageant."
- Her notable performances include playing "Xue Baochai" in the large-scale live-action dance drama "Dream of the Red Chamber on Water" in 2012, leading dance roles in the "Today's China" art week in New York, and solo performances at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. In 2014, she performed solo dances at Queen's University and Yale University in the United States and in Canada for the "Chinese Maritime Silk Road" cultural evening. She also starred in the "World Music and Dance Gala" at the Toronto International Cultural Arts Festival held at the Herbert H. Carnegie Great Hall.

- Born in Xi'an, Shaanxi, he began his musical training at the age of 6, studying singing and piano. By the age of 8, he won first place in the Shaanxi provincial children's song competition, kickstarting his journey in music. He consistently excelled, claiming the top prize at the "Spring Bud Cup," a talent competition hosted by the Shaanxi Provincial Department of Education, for six consecutive years.
- His rising career saw him winning the gold medal on Liaoning TV's "Genius Child Singers" in 2010, and in 2011, he was featured on CCTV’s “Music Express,” earning a perfect score. He achieved national recognition in 2012 by winning the only grand prize at a national children's song competition. The same year, he appeared on Hunan TV’s “The Voice of China,” where he was mentored by the renowned artist Hu Haiquan.
- In 2013, four of his songs were included in the “National Campus Songbook,” and he has recorded over 110 songs and released an album. He continued to grace stages internationally, performing at the Los Angeles Chinese New Year Gala in 2014 and winning awards at subsequent music competitions, including a notable performance at the "Belt and Road, Culture Illuminates the World" spring concert in 2017, and earning first place at the "Heritage Cup" in the City of Angels in 2018.

- Sky Patterson（白龍） attended the University of Southern California where he studied Theatre and Chinese language while captaining both the Tae Kwon Do and Wushu martial arts teams. After graduation he moved to Beijing, China where he competed internationally and appeared in several feature films. His athletic achievements include Gold Medal at the International Shaolin Temple Cultural Festival and Grand Champion at the Long Beach International Karate Championships. He has appeared in the films Tai Chi Zero and The Kung Fu Master, and most recently in the music video The Matrimony with artists Wale and Usher. Sky grew up in Portland, Oregon and resides in Los Angeles.

- Liu Zhao is a co-founder and board director of the nonprofit organization Chinese in Entertainment, based in California, USA, which organizes the annual Los Angeles Chinese Film Festival. He previously served as the Chief Content Officer at PanWave Media in Los Angeles, a film production company invested in by Alibaba Entertainment Group and Media Asia Group. The company focuses on developing original film and television content for the Chinese streaming market. Liu Zhao has been involved in the project development and pre-production of the Sino-American co-production "Rage Storm," starring Jackie Chan and John Cena, and served as the second assistant director for the TV drama "Goodbye, Las Vegas," starring Nicky Wu and Wang Zhiwen. Additionally, he has worked on the ABC reality show "Extreme Superstitions" hosted by George Lopez and the National Geographic documentary "Origins of Mankind." Before coming to Hollywood, he was a television news reporter for major media outlets in both China and the U.S., including Beijing Olympic Broadcasting, CCTV, and Voice of America. Where is HOMELAND LOVE playing?
The Orange County resident show, HOMELAND LOVE performs at the IRVINE BARCLAY THEATRE.
Is HOMELAND LOVE appropriate for children?
HOMELAND LOVE is suitable for all ages. Children under the age of one (1) are no charge though must remain on a parent or guardian’s lap for the duration of the performance. Children over the age of one (1) must purchase a ticket even if the child will be on a parent or guardian’s lap during the performance. Child pricing is available. Note: the production features moments of loud noises and darkness which may frighten some children. Please be advised that strobe lights and theatrical fog are used during performances. Guests who react to either of these effects should attend the show at their own risk.

No. The show is 90 minutes long without intermission.
